On the morning of 21st of September, the UN International Day of Peace, individuals from all walks of life will come together for a common purpose – to mindfully create silent and powerful intentions of peace and goodwill for all in our world.

The guided morning meditation to spoken commentary and sublime music will be supported by a team of experienced practitioners of meditation, from all sectors of the community, who will each light a candle for peace on behalf of the audience and hold a meditative space on the stage.

The UN International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21st every year by the General Assembly of the United Nations, to the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. Millions around the world take part in observing this day.

We invite all who share a concern for world peace to join this inaugural event at Federation Square and proactively support this Day. We believe that there is power in the gathering – and that this kind of human connection holds limitless possibility, consistent with the following landmark quotes:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” (Margaret Mead) and

This year’s theme – the Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace – highlights how ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring broadly shared prosperity all contribute to global harmony. When we all work together, we can make peace possible, starting with 24 hours of peace on September 21” (Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, 13th June 2016)

The event will be closed by the CEO of Federation Square, Ron Gauci and Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and 20 ‘peace doves’ will be released in the Square immediately after the event. We hope that you can join us at Federation Square. We invite you as well as your friends and colleagues to join us for this inspirational event.
